HOPE HAVEN FOR KENYA (HHFK) MASOL plans to build a model development community on the projects 1,000 acres of land to assist all orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC), youths, seniors, widows, disabled, and disadvantaged people in the Masol Location of West Pokot County. This region continues to require immediate humanitarian assistance. Therefore, the goals of HHFK MASOL are to provide all forms of assistance and services, including and not limited to health care, food, water, farming and agriculture, poverty, education, spiritual guidance, energy solutions, environmental and wildlife conservation, youth/women/seniors groups, empowerment, alternative livelihoods, security, and community development.
Masol Location currently receives very little outside assistance. It is constantly plagued by problems resulting from drought, famine, floods, poverty, cattle rustling, HIV/Aids, lack of teachers and schools, and more. Two years ago desert locusts swarmed the Masol area, as many as 80 million locusts per square kilometer, as the infestation wreaks havoc while devouring vegetation.
HHFK MASOL has the full support of the chiefs, elders, councilors, and the members of the entire communities of both East Masol and West Masol who together donated 1,000 (five thousand) acres of land for the project.
Priority attention to water and solar and wind energy solutions will help to resolve many of the issues in this region.
Canadian HHFK CEO Bill Cunningham had a clear vision for HHFK while volunteering at an orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya in 2008.
Kenyan HHFK Board Chairman Joseph Rotich was born and raised in Masol Location and is the founder of the Masol Wildlife Conservancy.
Kenyan HHFK Secretary Treasurer Reuben Lotumale was also born and raised in Masol Location and has experience working with World Vision.
HHFK MASOL is registered in Kenya and is managed and operated in cooperation with the community of Masol Location. HHFK is a registered as a foundation with the Province of British Columbia, Canada, under Societies Act Number S0073788.
HHFK MASOL will have a church, literally and geographically in the center of the community, along with the best primary and secondary school in the area, hospital and health facilities, library, gymnasium, computer building, trade and technical center, and community center. HHFK MASOL will have a farm to help feed the community with cattle, goats, chickens, rabbits, fish, bees for honey, as well re-introducing a variety of vegetables and fruits to the region. The community will be operated as much as possible by solar and wind energy and be environmentally friendly.
The HHFK MASOL outreach program is “Child Focused and Family Centered” in order to benefit the entire family. By providing the family unit with better health care, food, water, education, self-empowerment programs, and more, the goal is to keep children together with their family if at all possible. To best replicate a true family setting the orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) who do not have family will live in homes of 8 children with house parents. HHFK MASOL conducted a census of all of the children and people in Masol in order to be inclusive of everyone in the area.
HHFK Masol does not want the children and future generations to lose their culture, history, and traditions and therefore will host a museum, cultural center, as well as a wildlife conservancy. These projects will also attract tourism to the area providing tourist dollars to help fund the HHFK Masol community. Additional projects to assist funding the community and empowering the people will include honey from a bee farm, locally grown aloe vera products, fruits, vegetables, and sale of livestock. Upon completion it is estimated that HHFK MASOL will provide employment for 600 Kenyans while empowering many more.
"Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed".
